Iced Dalgona, Japanese Iced Coffee, and Tropical Sun Tea

Summer is the season for bare feet and sandals, sunshine and the sound of ice cubes clinking while condensation runs down a tall glass of something delicious. Whether you’re a coffee or tea fan,  we’ve got a selection of iced drinks that are super easy to make and will keep you cool, happy, and just a little bit smug while everyone else is melting under the summer sun.

Iced Dalgona:

Dalgona is whipped coffee and it’s so easy to make that once you’ve made it, you’ll never forget how. Mix equal parts of instant coffee, white sugar and hot water in a bowl and whip with a hand mixer until it’s fluffy and holds in soft peaks.

About 2 tablespoons each instant coffee, sugar and water is a good amount to try it. It takes about 3-5 mins to whip with a hand mixer. Use a deep bowl, because it splashes until it starts to thicken.

Once the whipped coffee is ready, pour milk over ice cubes in a pretty glass and scoop the whipped coffee on top. Garnish with chocolate or cinnamon if you like. Stir and enjoy!

Japanese Style Iced Coffee:

If you’ve ever wished your iced coffee could taste as flavorful as a pour-over, this is the drink for you. Japanese Iced Coffee is brewed hot — just like a pour-over — but dripped directly over ice. The hot water extracts all the coffee’s vibrant notes, while the ice instantly chills it, locking in the flavor.

How to make it:

  1. Measure & prep – Use about 20g of ground coffee, 200g hot water and 100g ice cubes.
  2. Fill your vessel – Place ice cubes into a carafe or glass under your pour-over dripper.
  3. Brew hot – Pour the hot water over the coffee grounds in slow, steady circles.
  4. Stir & serve – Give the coffee a gentle stir to melt any remaining ice.

Add milk or cream and more ice if you like.

Tip: Experiment with roast style. Dark roasts are popular for iced coffee, but Japanese style iced coffee really shines with a medium roast coffee, so try it with different roasts to see which you prefer!

Sun Tea:

Sun tea is a delicious summer treat in its laziest and most charming form — all you need is tea, water, and sunshine. Making tropical sun tea couldn’t be simpler. Fill a quart jar with cold water. Add 4-6 tea bags and cover the jar. Then just place in a sunny window sill or any sunny spot for 2-4 hours and let it steep in the sun. Remove the teabags and pour over ice!
